2009-2010 Parking Changes in the Medical Center

A number of important changes are occurring related to parking in the OSU Medical Center and the general parking permit system for the 2009-2010 parking permit year. For more information, please see the information listed below or download the OSU Medical Center Parking Options fact sheet (pdf).

Garage Spaces Near the Medical Center

  • The SAFEAUTO Hospitals Garage spaces and the 12th Avenue Garage spaces for patients and their visitors are a scarce resource and not intended for staff use. OSU employees may not park in garages designated for patients and patient visitors unless they are a patient or visiting a patient or have the appropriate disability parking permit.
  • The new 9th Avenue East garage (1000 spaces) will open by September 1, 2009.
  • B Garage groupings have been adjusted to better reflect the area of campus where staff park; reduce the need to drive across campus; and create hourly parking in the Neil Avenue garage. The total quantity of B Garage permits available has not changed. For more information, please see BG Permit Allocation Change.
  • Patient care staff who work shifts that require arrival during mid morning peak hour and end after the Med Center Express bus ends may request an exception and obtain a BG permit. A letter from their Nurse Manager validating the shift assignment is required in advance.

Low Cost Parking Alternatives

  • Alternatives to parking on sight and dealing with construction delays and detours include buying the low cost CX permit. Staff can park in the Buckeye Lot and use the Med Center Express shuttle to get back and forth to the Medical Center. The Med Center Express buses run Monday – Friday from 5:30am – 1am, with timed stops at both the Medical Center and Buckeye Lot to help you plan your commute. Anytime the Med Center Express does not run (weekends and holidays), your CX permit is honored in the Polo Lot parking west of Cannon Drive (aka "The Pit").
  • Employees who work at the main Medical Center campus may not park at Ackerman, Morehouse and OSU East and use the Medical Center shuttles to get back and forth to work on the main medical center campus. This shuttle is a scarce resource intended for patients and staff who are based in these remote locations and need to access the main campus area for patient care or for meetings.
  • A portion of the Ackerman Lot will change to require an A or B permit. For more information, please visit the Ackerman Lot parking change map.

Off Site Parking Options

  • Departmental “A” permits are available to staff who work at satellite locations (defined as not adjacent to the central campus) but come to the main campus for business related purposes. Please see departmental parking options for more information.
  • The new Medical Access (“MA”) permit is now available for staff based at Medical Center Satellite locations and OSU East who need to travel back and forth between their primary work location and the OSUMC central campus for business purposes. Please see Medical Center Satellite Office parking options for more information.

Please visit e-Services Faculty/Staff Parking Permits for more information and/or to purchase your 2009-2010 parking permit.
