Parking Options

DEPARTMENT PERMITS

There are many options for departmental parking needs. If your specific need is not addressed below, please e-mail us at tpinfo@osu.edu or call 292-9341 and we will be happy to assist you.

Use of Personal Vehicle for Departmental Business
University policy prohibits a department from paying for an OSU employee’s annual parking permit. If an employee drives and parks on campus regularly to get to and from work, the employee must purchase an OSU parking permit.

However, if the employee must use his/her car for departmental business and does not have the parking permit necessary to conduct business, the department may obtain a departmental parking pass that can be used by any employee as needed. This permit should be displayed along with the employee’s parking permit. Options for departmental parking permits are as follows:

  • Departmental “A” – provides full access to all staff garages and access to any A, B or C unrestricted surface parking space on central or west campus. Pricing for this pass is equal to the annual "A" permit price.

Apply for a Departmental A Pass.

  • Departmental “B” – provides access only to any B or C unrestricted surface parking space on central or west campus. Pricing for this pass is equal to the annual "B" permit price.

Delivery Permits
Delivery permits are free of charge and must be requested by a department chair, dean, or director. They must be used in conjunction with an annual "A", "B", or "C" permit and are valid in a designated loading zone for 30 minutes. A Delivery Permit will also authorize any permit type to use an "A", "B", or "C" space for 30 minutes if accompanied with a Delivery Permit.

Service Vehicle Permits
Vehicles with state plates are able to park in any legal A, B or C surface parking space, or in general state vehicle parking. If they park in a time restricted permit space (such as a 2 hour “A” space), they must obey the posted time.

Access to area garages will require the use of a “SV” keycard. These keycards may be purchased for using approved departmental methods and are renewable annually. Access to the Hospitals Garage and other designated patient parking locations is not provided.

For the 2008-2009 permit year, this SV keycard costs $50.25

Reserved Parking Spaces
Some departments require the use of dedicated parking spaces to conduct business. These spaces are reserved for departmental use, state vehicles, and other outside guests and visitors. There is an annual fee equal to two times the "A" parking rate for each reserved parking space. OSU employees who use these spaces must also purchase and display the appropriate A or B parking permit necessary for their employment classification.

Contact us at tpinfo@osu.edu for information on reserved parking spaces.

DEPARTMENT VISITOR PERMITS

Transportation & Parking Services relies on departments who invite guests and visitors to campus to provide their guests with appropriate parking information to avoid parking illegally on campus.

There are many parking options for your visitors and guests. Departments may choose to prepay for parking for a guest or visitor or require them to pay for their own parking.

Prepaid Parking Options for Department Visitors
Prepaid parking options for guests/visitors require that a department complete a parking permit application for University Departments and complete a 100W in order to purchase parking for their guests in advance.

Self-Paid Options for Department Visitors
Self-pay options, which require the visitor to purchase their own parking, include parking at meters, paying the posted hourly fee in parking garages, or purchasing surface or garage parking permits as follows.

Garage Parking - A reduced rate voucher for parking facilities (ValueCard) is available to visitors to be used at the time of exit for a discount rate. Access to certain facilities may be limited and they are not accepted for any football or special event parking. These reduced rate vouchers may be obtained in 160 Bevis Hall.

Surface Lot Parking - Single-day and multi-day parking permits may be purchased by anyone who needs to park at the University and are valid for surface lots only. If the visitor chooses to park at a meter or pay facility (i.e. garage), all hourly fees must be paid.

  • Scratching off one month, one day and one year validates the visitor parking permit. The date exposed for the single-day is the date of the actual visit. The date exposed for the multi-day is the last day of the visit and is valid from the date of purchase through the date exposed. If more than one of each category is exposed, the permit is void and if displayed on a vehicle, the vehicle is subject to fines and/or impoundment.
  • Visitors will be assigned specific parking designations by Transportation & Parking Services. Designated parking areas will be written on the front of the single-day or multi-day permit in the comment box.

Visitor permits may be purchased from our office in room 160 Bevis Hall, 1080 Carmack Road, on West Campus. You may bring the application below with you or fill out an application at the office.

Planning Parking for Large Events
If you are planning on having 100 or more visitors parking on campus at the same time on any given day, complete an event notification sheet so that we can assist you with parking arrangements. Since there are often many smaller events happening on campus at the same time, it is recommended that T&P be notified in advance for events with just 30-50 guests or you can check the event calendar.
