City of Columbus to implement parking ban on monday, january 7, 2008

On Monday, January 7th, 2008, a campus area parking ban will be implemented by the Columbus Police Department in response to the National Championship football game. The parking ban will aid in preventing property damage to vehicles that would have been parked along key streets.

The parking ban is effective beginning at 4:00pm on Monday, January 7th, 2008 and will continue through 4:00am on Tuesday January 8th, 2008.

The parking ban will be in effect for the following streets:

  • Chittenden Avenue, between High Street and Summit Street; both sides of the street
  • 12th Avenue, between High Street and Summit Street; both sides of the street
  • 14th Avenue, between High Street and Indianola; both sides of the street

Parking Accommodations
The Columbus Division of Police and The Ohio State University have made arrangements for individuals living on the affected streets to park at the Carmack Lot # 5 on West Campus, located on the southwest corner of Carmack and Kenny Road. Individuals may begin parking at this location starting the evening of Sunday, January 6, but all vehicles must be removed by the evening of Tuesday, January 8, 2008.

Moving of Vehicles
Starting on Monday, January 7 at 4 pm, Columbus Police and wreckers will begin issuing citations and moving vehicles parked on the listed streets to the OSU West Campus, Carmack Lot # 5, located at the southwest corner of Carmack and Kenny Road. Each car that is towed to Carmack Lot #5 will be issued a $20 citation for violating a “no parking” ban.

Impounding of Vehicles
Any vehicle that is parked on the listed streets after the initial moving period will be issued a parking ticket and impounded to the Columbus Division of Police impound lot at 400 West Whittier Avenue. Individuals believing their vehicle may have been towed should call 614-645-6400. Please have your license plate information and the location where the vehicle was parked.

Cost of Impounding and Ticket
The cost to retrieve an impounded vehicle will be at least $130 depending on the specific violation cited and how quickly the owner claims the car. The towing fee is $95 and there is a $15/day storage fee that starts the minute the vehicle arrives at the impound lot. Parking fines range from $20 for violating a “no parking” zone to $250 for unauthorized parking in a handicap zone.
